"The Ministry of Gratitude" | Head Elder Alex Clerk

Greetings, beloved members and friends of Palo Alto Church, Summary This week, we started the holiday season with the celebration of Thanksgiving. We sat at the dinner table with our friends and family, enjoyed wonderfully prepared food, and gave thanks to our creator for His many blessings. Thanksgiving, I want to remind everyone, walks hand in hand with gratitude and so we must also turn our hearts to the ministry of gratitude, exploring a powerful passage from the Gospel of Luke, specifically Luke 4:38-39. In these verses, we find a brief but profound encounter that unveils the transformative power of gratitude in the service of our Lord, Jesus. Gratitude allows us to give service, care, or aid and also attend as to needs, necessities, or even wants of others. It pulls us to minister to the needs of the hungry. Gratitude provides a path for us to contribute to the comfort or happiness of others. That is what we are about this Thanksgiving week. Join Us Every Sabbath 🌐 Join us in the spirit of togetherness! Of Pharisees and Tax Collectors | Elder Bert Williams

Dear Members and Visitors of the Palo Alto Adventist Church, This Sabbath, Elder Bert Williams will be our Divine Worship Hour speaker. Here is a brief summary of his message: Those of us who have read the gospels for years have become accustomed to thinking about Pharisees as self-important egotists who were highly impressed by their own righteousness. Readers of the gospels are also offered several positive snapshots of tax collectors, a group that was generally not admired in their time. So what can we know about these groups of people when they were actually living and working in Jesus' time. In this sermon, we will consider both a parable told by Jesus and the visit Jesus had with that short rich guy named Zacchaeus. As always with stories about Jesus, there are valuable spiritual lessons to be considered. The Journey of Faith | Pastor Kerry-Ann Butler

Dear Palo Alto Adventist Church members and visitors, This Sabbath, our Divine Service Guest Speaker is Pastor Kerry-Ann Butler. Pastor Kerry is a graduate of the Seventh Day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, where she received her Master of Divinity. She is currently the Associate & Youth Pastor of Sunnyvale SDA Church. She’s passionate about showing others that with Christ, they can have a better life. Originally from New York with Jamaican roots, she's an artist, minister, and major advocate for mental health; especially in the black community. One of her life’s mottos is simple: when we Love God, we learn to truly Love People. We pray that you are blessed by the message that she has prepared for us this Sabbath. Sermon Summary Our sermon this Sabbath speaks on the journey we take when we are deepening our faith. Sometimes we have days where our faith seems on the mountain top, and other days our faith will seem to be in the valley. Nevertheless, we know that God is with us through it all, our high and our low moments. We can know with certainty that God will turn our weeping into dancing and our sorrow into joy. He will always turn things around for us, we just got to have faith. "The Trap of Poverty and Riches" | Elder Alex Clerk

"The Trap of Poverty and Riches" | Elder Alex Clerk

Dear Palo Alto Adventist Church members and visitors, All over the world, America is known as a wealthy, generous, blessed nation, and rightly so because she has given more to this world than any other nation in the modern era. In this country, some of us may be considered poor but compared to most people on earth, all of us here in church today are considered wealthy materially. So to some, we are rich, and to others we are poor, but whether we are truly rich or poor depends on how we define poverty or wealth; which in turn determines whether we are free or trapped. 'Poverty' is not always a trap and 'Wealth' is not a trap always, but the potential to be trapped is strong at either extreme. This is what we are about this week.
