“Moses’ Heart and Personality” | Head Elder Alex Clerk
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, As we prepare our hearts for the coming Sabbath, I invite you to join us as we gather once again around God’s Word. This week, I will be sharing a message titled, “Moses’ Heart and Personality.” Together, we will reflect on the life of Moses and the lessons his journey offers to all who desire to walk faithfully with the Lord. Scripture Reading: Exodus 32:11 King James Version (NKJV) Sermon Summary The story of Moses reminds us that God does not call the self-sufficient. He calls those willing to depend fully on Him. When God called Moses, he responded with humility and reluctance, aware of his weakness. Rather than rejecting him, God revealed His presence as the true source of strength. Throughout Israel’s journey, Moses carried the burden of leadership by continually turning to God in prayer and intercession (Exodus 32:11–14). His life demonstrates a central biblical truth: victory in faith and leadership comes through submission to God’s will, not human ability. Moses also accepted wise counsel and shared responsibility, modeling servant leadership grounded in humility. Even in moments of failure, Moses’ life points us forward to Christ—the greater Deliverer—who leads His people faithfully and perfectly. Scripture summarizes Moses’ character well: “Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3). His life calls us to trust God fully, walk humbly, and remain faithful as we await our final deliverance. How did he go about all that? That is our question this week. I invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath, and may God’s presence be richly felt among us. “Two Adams” | Elder Bert Williams
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, As we prepare our hearts for the coming Sabbath, I warmly invite you to join us as we gather once again around God’s Word. This week, we are blessed to have Elder Bert Williams share the message "Two Adams," with our Scripture reading taken from Romans 5:17-19. Below is a brief summary of the message, shared by Elder Bert Williams, offering a glimpse into the journey he will lead us on. Sermon Summary Following His baptism, Jesus was confronted with a daunting experience in the wilderness. For several weeks, He was alone and severely tested. Had He failed the test, yielding to the temptations with which Satan confronted Him, eternal loss, for the entire planet and its inhabitants, would have been the consequence. So we will consider the question: did Jesus suffer these temptations as a sinless human as Adam had been when tempted at the tree in the garden, or was Jesus a human who had inherited the results of Adam's sin? Was Jesus living as Adam before the fall in the garden, or had Jesus inherited Adam's sinful heart? The answer is challenging and important. I invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath, and may God’s presence be richly felt among us. “Jesus Wept” | Elder Michael Buffington
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, As we prepare our hearts for the coming Sabbath, I warmly invite you to join us as we gather once again around God’s Word. This week, we are blessed to have Michael Buffington share the message "Jesus Wept," with our Scripture reading taken from John 11:33-35 KJV. Below is a brief summary of the message, shared by Michael Buffington, offering a glimpse into the journey he will lead us on. Sermon Summary What is grief, and how does the Bible address it? This message explores grief as a normal human response to loss, including its mental, emotional, and physical effects. It also looks at how Scripture handles grief through examples of lament, suffering, and comfort, showing that grief is not incompatible with faith. The sermon highlights the moment when Jesus Himself wept, providing a biblical framework for understanding how believers can process loss while maintaining hope. I invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath, and may God’s presence be richly felt among us. “A Journey With Mark” | Elder Bert Williams
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, As we prepare our hearts for the coming Sabbath, I warmly invite you to join us as we gather once again around God’s Word. This week, we are blessed to have Elder Bert Williams share the message, with our Scripture reading taken from Acts 15:35–41. On this Valentine’s Day weekend, we are reminded that the greatest love we celebrate is the steadfast, sacrificial love of Christ—love that calls us, sustains us, and shapes us into His likeness. May His love fill our hearts and homes in a special way as we worship together. Below is a brief summary of the message, shared by Elder Bert, offering a glimpse into the journey he will lead us on. Sermon Summary (shared by Elder Bert Williams) This sermon is actually two sermons in one. First, we will take a bit of time getting better acquainted with Mark, writer of the earliest of the four Gospels. Then we will approach the first eleven verses of Mark, chapter 1, in which we will discover four key ideas: Messiah, Son of Man, Wilderness, and Baptism. That’s quite a range of topics, but it simply follows Mark’s lead. His style is short and punchy—quick, direct, and always moving forward. We will ride with Mark for a while in the weeks ahead. It will not be a placid journey. I invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath, and may God’s presence be richly felt among us. “The Jairus Syndrome” | Pastor Steve Constantine
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, It is a joy to welcome you to another Sabbath as we gather to worship and seek the presence of God. This week, Pastor Steve Constantine will be sharing a message titled “The Jairus Syndrome,” drawn from Mark 5:21-25. Scripture Reading: Mark 5:21-25 Sermon Summary Jesus and His entourage had just crossed Lake Genezareth (Sea of Galilee) and landed in Capernaum to fulfill two appointments. As usual a large crowd engulfed Him; Jairus, Leader of the Synagogue approached Him with an urgent request. What I find interesting on the leader's approach is how prescriptive and specific he was. "Come to my house, put Your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." It sounds innocent enough until we consider who he is talking to. Our message this week will examine the details of this encounter and look for the teachable moments that may inform our personal relationship we each develop with Jesus, the creator of the Universe. We invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath! “True Worship” | Head Elder Alex Clerk
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, It is a joy to welcome you to another Sabbath as we gather to worship and seek the presence of God. This week, I will be sharing a message titled “True Worship,” drawn from John 4:19–24. Scripture Reading: John 4:19-24 NKJV Sermon Summary This week and always, Jesus teaches that true worship is not defined by location, tradition, or form, but by relationship and reality. Speaking to the Samaritan woman, He reveals that the Father is seeking worshipers who worship in spirit and in truth. They are those whose hearts are alive for God and whose lives are aligned with and guided by the Holy Spirit. This passage calls believers to move beyond external religion to authentic worship that flows from a transformed heart, grounded in the truth of who God is and made possible through Christ. True worship honors God not merely with words or rituals, but with sincere devotion, obedience, and a life in tune with and guided by the Holy Spirit. We invite you to join us with open hearts as we worship, reflect, and grow together in God’s Word. Happy Sabbath! In His grace, Head Elder Alex Clerk

“The House” | Elder Bert Williams
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, We look forward to worshiping together this Sabbath as we welcome Elder Bert Williams to the pulpit. He will be sharing a message titled “The House,” drawn from Mark 1:1-3, inviting us to reflect deeply on Jesus’ teachings and the transforming power of grace. Scripture Reading: Mark 1:1-3 Sermon Summary: Elder Bert Williams This Sabbath begins a consideration of the Gospel of Mark, during upcoming Sabbaths when I am preaching. The sermon this Sabbath will serve as an introduction, as we consider Mark and his mother, Mary, who was a well-known and influential person among the earliest Christians. Mary's large home served as a meeting place for those early Jesus believers. She is an example of the considerable influence of women in the earliest days of Christianity. "New" | Elder Bert Williams | Communion Service
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, and Happy New Year! As we step into this new year together, we are invited to pause, reflect, and renew our commitment to Christ. This Sabbath, as we gather around the Communion table, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus, the hope found in His promises, and the assurance that He walks with us into every new season. We welcome Elder Bert Williams to the pulpit as he leads us in a message that points our hearts toward remembrance, renewal, and the future kingdom Christ has prepared for us. Scripture Reading: Matthew 26:29 NIV Sermon Summary: Elder Bert Williams Jesus knew that His time had come. It was the final evening with His disciples before His crucifixion. The disciples were completely unaware of what was coming. They were anticipating great things. But within less than twenty-four hours it seemed to them that all was lost. They were devastated. Broken. All hope was gone. Even when Jesus knew He was facing the worst suffering any human has ever experienced, He was more concerned for His disciples than for Himself. And so, although they failed to hear it at the time, He gave His brothers in the upper room solid reason for hope. As He shared the cup with them He said this: "I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom" (Matthew 26:29 NIV). Today, we are not yet with Him in His Father's kingdom but we have the privilege of sharing the cup together, and looking forward eagerly to that day. "Sowers All" | Elder Hyacinth Frank-Stephens
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, We look forward to worshiping together this Sabbath as we welcome Elder Hyacinth Frank-Stephens to the pulpit. She will be sharing a timely and thought-provoking message that invites us to reflect on our role as sowers in God’s kingdom and the responsibility we carry in sharing His Word with intention and faith. Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:10-23 Sermon Summary: Elder Hyacinth Frank-Stephens A sower went out to sow and some of his seeds fell on fertile ground and brought forth fruit. In this story, the sower is intentional. He is armed with the word of God and out to sow seeds of love to harvest fruit for God's kingdom. However, who determines the ideal time for sowing, and what happens if no one decides to sow. What if the sower is carrying seed that is genetically modified, or AI generated. What then? "The Gospel of Christ" | Head Elder Alex Clerk
Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." Romans 1:16 NKJV Last Sabbath, we heard about the Gospel of Proximity and this week, our obligation at Christmas is to declare that the gospel is “the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes.” At Christmas, we celebrate the moment that power entered the world—not through force or spectacle, but through a humble child in a manger. The birth of Jesus reveals that God’s saving power is rooted in love, grace, and self-giving, not human strength. Therefore by our discourse and persistent purpose, we must declare that Christmas is more than a story of warmth and tradition; it is the beginning of God’s saving work for all people. The gospel announced at Christ’s birth still has power today to transform lives, bring hope to the broken, and offer salvation to everyone who believes. At Christmas, we are called to not be ashamed of this gospel, but to live it and share it as the greatest gift God has given the world. We warmly invite you to come with open hearts and minds as we worship, reflect, and grow together in faith. Happy Sabbath!
