"Silver and Gold, I Do Not Have" | Head Elder Alex Clerk

Scripture Reading Acts 3:1-8 Greetings beloved congregation and friends of Palo Alto Church, Welcome to our church family! We are delighted to have you join us for worship this Sabbath. Whether you are a long-time member or a first-time visitor, we hope that you will find peace, inspiration, spiritual growth, warmth, and an inclusive community where all are valued and accepted in our midst. Welcome back to the platform, Head Elder Alex Clerk! Your presence fills our hearts with joy and anticipation as we eagerly await the wisdom and guidance you are about to share. May your words resonate deeply with all who listen, inspiring us to walk the path of faith with renewed vigor and purpose. We are honored to have you lead us once again in this sacred space. Summary In Acts 3:1-8, we encounter the story of a man who was lame from birth, positioned daily at the gate of the temple called Beautiful, begging for alms. This man's life was marked by physical disability and societal marginalization, yet God had a Divine appointment awaiting him—a Divine focus that would forever change his life and the lives of those around him. When Peter invited this man to “look at us “, he asked for a lame man to focus on him. What did the lame man see when he did? What do we see when we focus on Peter in this story? Such is the focus this Sabbath. May the Lord bless us all. Join Us Every Sabbath 🌐 Join us in the spirit of togetherness! Scripture Readings Exodus 3:1-10 Sermon Title "A Task Beyond Me" Introduction Greetings beloved congregation and friends of Palo Alto Church, Welcome to our church family! We are delighted to have you join us for worship this Sabbath. Whether you are a long-time member or a first-time visitor, we hope that you will find peace, inspiration, spiritual growth, warmth, and an inclusive community where all are valued and accepted in our midst. Summary I wonder how many people at Palo Alto Church have seen the movie "The King's Speech" which deserves every honor it got at The Oscars. It is a wonderful movie. If you haven't seen it take sometime to do so. The true story behind it, is that of King George 6th, King Charles grandfather who was a big time stammerer. He found himself face to face with a monumental tasks. Public speaking to the British Empire, upon which “the sun never sets” because it was so large. Such was the case for Moses, a fellow stammerer who had to face a powerful king and that was “a task beyond me.” Our Scripture passage for this week found in Exodus 3:1-10, invites us into this extraordinary encounter between God and Moses and reveals a timeless truth. May the Lord be with us as we focus on His word. Join Us Every Sabbath 🌐 Join us in the spirit of togetherness! Forgiven but Not Forgotten | Head Elder Alex Clerk

Scripture Readings Matthew 18:15-17 Sermon Title Forgiven but Not Forgotten Introduction Greetings beloved congregation and friends of Palo Alto Church, Summary I am sure most of us here have friends or members of our family that we love but who at times make us wish we never knew them. Why? Because they have a way to crawl under our skin and bug us to no end. You know you cannot throw them away and so you keep them as friends, as family members, and as brothers and sisters in Christ. Then one such person does something that is difficult to forgive and forget. A Seventh-Day Adventist brother who is also a Pastor murders your whole family because you are from another tribe, as occurred in Rwanda. And so you say this I cannot forgive and forget. Some of us are gracious and we say, "I have forgiven you but I cannot forget". So we go thorough the steps suggested in the scripture reading this week but in the end we say, "I have forgiven you but I will have nothing to do with you" thinking we are following the Lord’s advice. The Lord's advice is helpful when we are offended by someone at home, at school, and even at church but what is it really saying to us. This Sabbath, I intend for us to take a SECOND LOOK AT HIS ADVICE for situations in which we are bugged, offended, or wronged beyond measure. Sharing the Gospel Part 1: An Invitational People | Pastor Victor Salazar

Scripture Readings John 1:45-46 Summary Have you ever tried to share the Gospel with somebody and ended up feeling more like an awkward salesperson trying to sell a product? Or even worse, have you tried to normalize Jesus so much that you’ve ended up hiding him from others altogether? This Saturday, January 27, pastor Victor starts a two-part sermon series on Sharing the Gospel. In part one, we'll explore the story of Jesus and Nathaniel to rediscover what it means to be an invitational people. Join Us Every Sabbath 🌐 Join us in the spirit of togetherness! Guess Who Is Coming To Dinner? | Communion Service | Pastor Steve Constantine

Scripture Reading Luke 7:39-43 Sermon Title "Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner?" Introduction Greetings beloved congregation and friends of Palo Alto Church, Please welcome back our former Pastor Steve Constantine to the platform. Summary The story of the woman with the Alabaster Box was told by all four of the Gospel Writers. As is common to multiple accounts on the same story, the details are not identical. Here are the passages: Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-13, Luke 7:39-43, and John 12:1-7. Everyone but Luke places this narrative in proximity to the "Last Supper", but he alone focuses on the theme of forgiveness in his narrative. As an invited guest to the house of Simon the Pharisee, Jesus was not accorded the courtesies of His day, yet, the host chose to be critical of the woman who washed His feet with her tears. Jesus used this moment as a teachable moment for Simon and for us. As we partake of the emblems, let us focus on the forgiveness that comes our way in this experience. "Creatures of Rhythm We Are" | Head Elder Alex Clerk

Scripture Readings Jeremiah 8:7 and Genesis 8:20-22 Sermon Title "Creatures of Rhythm We Are" Summary At the start of another BUSY year and as we delve into the sacred pages of Scripture, we embark on a journey through the vivid imagery of prophets deeply burdened by the spiritual and physiological condition of God's people. The words of Genesis 8:20-22 and Jeremiah 8:7 resonate through the ages, reaching out to us with a poignant reminder of a lost harmony and God’s desire to restore us. "Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons, and the dove, the swift, and the thrush observe the time of their migration. But my people do not know the requirements of the Lord." Jeremiah 8:7, NIV In these verses, the prophet Jeremiah draws a striking parallel between the instinctual wisdom of creation and wasteful existence out of ignorance of God's people. The stork, the dove, the swift, and the thrush—they all discern the seasons appointed by the Creator, moving in seamless harmony with the rhythms of nature. Yet, tragically, God's people, who bear the divine image, find themselves out of step, failing to recognize the sacred requirements of the Lord based on how we were created which includes our freedom to choose. More importantly, how do we rediscover the sacred rhythm that mends the discord within our hearts and restores our connection with the Divine Composer? This Sabbath, I invite you to join me as we unpack the timeless truths encapsulated in Jeremiah's words—truths that echo through the corridors of our lives, beckoning us to rediscover the divine rhythm that brings peace to our souls, restoration of physical body and restoration to our relationship with God. May the Spirit guide us into a deeper understanding of these sacred verses and inspire transformation in our hearts. Amen. Join Us Every Sabbath 🌐 Join us in the spirit of togetherness! "The Baby 'I AM'" | Head Elder Alex Clerk

Greetings beloved members and friends of Palo Alto Church, Summary Most of the people introduced to Christ at his birth, thought of Him in terms of the present and the future. That is what is natural when you see a baby. The years ahead. The opportunities ahead. Sometimes the difficulties ahead. We may even say he looks like his grandfather or grandmother but seldom if ever, is there a thought he existed before in totality, even in cultures that believe in reincarnation. Today, when we think about the baby Jesus, we also think about the present and the future: a King, a Messiah, a Savior is born. "Glory to the newborn King". "Joy to the world, the Lord is come". The government shall be on His shoulder. This Christmas, we can also think about His past before His birth and what that says to us because He says "Before Abraham was ‘I Am’". "The baby ‘I AM’". "All I Want for Christmas, is You!" | Pastor Steve Constantine

The sermon title is also one of my favorite Secular Christmas Carols. The song was written, produced and recorded by Mariah Carry in 1994, and remains as one of the popular songs of the season. It is regularly personalized to mean the love interest of the person quoting or singing the lyrics. For the purpose of this Sabbath's message, let us imagine that the Baby Jesus is singing this song about each of us. How does that thought impact everyone of us as we consider the Baby Jesus request a gift from all of us. In this season of giving and receiving of gifts, here is my question for you, "What gifts do you have for the Baby Jesus?" Join Us Every Sabbath 🌐 Join us in the spirit of togetherness!
